Frequently Asked Questions
How can I make an appointment?
Please email: bridget@spiritwellbeing.com.au
What will the initial consultation involve?
The logistics of therapy will be detailed such as time, place, cost, session frequency and duration, and the therapist’s policy in regards to cancellations. You can also ask about the therapist’s professional qualifications, experience and therapeutic approach. This can give you a better idea of what is involved in therapy and help you decide if the therapist is someone you feel like you can work with.
What happens in a therapy session?
Balanced Minds offers talking therapy that endeavours to be empowering for you. This is done by striving to provide a safe and supportive therapeutic environment that is strengths-based, and fun!
During the initial sessions (which is the assessment phase), you and your therapist will work together to explore and develop a shared understanding of your presenting difficulties, what you would like to see happen, ‘the plan’, and your overall goals for therapy.
Following the assessment, we will share treatment recommendations and options with you, and if we believe that psychological therapy may not be the best option, we will advise alternatives. Also, if we believe that we may not be the most appropriate person to support you, we will let you know the reasons why we believe this, and endeavour to provide alternatives.
Following the initial assessment phase, you can decide whether or not you would like to begin your therapeutic journey – working in collaboration with your therapist towards your agreed therapeutic goals.
How often will I have to attend therapy and for how long?
We typically suggest weekly sessions, and sometimes fortnightly. Because your treatment plan is unique to you, discussing frequency of therapy will occur during the initial sessions.
The length of therapy is also entirely dependent on you and your unique therapeutic needs. We will come to an agreement regarding the duration of therapy in the initial stages of therapy, and this will be constantly monitored.
How much does a session cost?
Please contact Balanced Minds for this information.
Joanna is also ACC Sensitive Claims registered. You may be eligible for ACC-funded support if you have suffered a mental injury as a result of sexual abuse or sexual assault. For more information please go to the following link: https://findsupport.co.nz.
Will my sessions be confidential?
Yes, everything you say to your therapist will remain confidential. The only time that confidentiality will be breached is if you disclose any information that makes your therapist concerned that there is a safety risk to you or another person. Wherever possible, we will aim to share our concerns with you before notifying a third party.
